Yes. Please come to the dojo 15 minutes before any scheduled class and the instructor will lead you through the process.

What should I wear during the trial class?

Comfortable athletic wear. Long pants are strongly recommended. Jewelries are not allowed.

Yes. Weapons classes are $25 per month in addition to the regular tuition for Aikido classes.

Is Aikido an effective method for self-defense?

Like all combative arts, regardless of the style, the effectiveness of Aikido is contextual and dependent on the unique situation and abilities of each practitioner. Aikido is a martial art that utilizes practical joint manipulation techniques designed to multiply the force used in defensive situations. Through consistent practice, these techniques can become effective tools for self-defense.

Is Aikido training safe?

Aikido training can be safe and enjoyable when practiced with care under the guidance of experienced instructors. However, like any physical activity, there is a risk of injury. Aikido involves joint manipulation and throws, which can lead to injury if done incorrectly.

To minimize risk, communicate any pre-existing injuries or medical conditions to your instructors and modify techniques if necessary. Warming up and stretching before each session can also help prevent injuries.

Additionally, practicing Aikido with humility and conscientiousness for yourself and your partner is critical for injury prevention.

Is great physical shape a prerequisite for learning Aikido?

Good physical and underlying health are important for martial arts and overall well-being. However, being physically fit isn't necessary to start learning Aikido. Aikido doesn't rely on pure physical strength but on understanding body mechanics, which anyone can learn. Physical fitness and lifestyle changes can naturally result from Aikido training, but they're not required to master its essential principles.

Do I need to purchase my own weapons?

We provide communal weapons like bokken, jo, and tanto for training, saving students from buying their own initially. Yet, as students advance and use weapons regularly, getting their properly fitted gear is recommended.
